Georgia Rowing Alumni Association: Reflections on 2024 and Plans for 2025
From our president, Will Hedgpeth
As we approach the end of 2024, I wanted to take a moment to share some updates and reflections on an incredible year for the Georgia Rowing Alumni Association and our plans for the year ahead. As I've taken over the role of President, I want to first thank those who made this association possible and did the hard work to get it moving. Now let's bump the rate.
Highlights from fall
This fall, the collaboration between the current officer board and our alumni board has been a major highlight. Working together during our dual-board meeting was an excellent opportunity to strengthen relationships and align on how the alumni board can best support the team. I’m thrilled by the shared vision we developed and the mutual understanding of the alumni board’s role in promoting the success of the program.
One exciting topic that emerged from our discussions was the return of Bow Ball to the Atlanta area. Our goal is to make this event a cornerstone of connection for current students, alumni, families, and friends. We’re aiming for early April, and we’ll announce a specific date soon. Mark your calendars when that date comes out—this promises to be an unforgettable celebration of the Georgia Rowing family.
Looking ahead to 2025
In addition to helping the team with Bow Ball, we’re turning our focus toward enhancing our fundraising efforts. This year, we celebrated the donation of a new women’s 8+ that went through the alumni association—a testament to the value of having a 501c(3) supporting the team. For 2025, our next target is a men’s 8+ (The Beast is the top men's 8+ still).
I’ve already had conversations with several alumni who are enthusiastic about supporting this initiative, and a few have even committed to donations. Thank you for your generosity! To those I haven’t yet connected with, I look forward to catching up over the holidays and exploring how you can help us reach this goal. Every contribution counts, and together, we can make a tangible impact on the team’s success and on these student's lives.
Quarterly newsletters and hard copy additions
Starting in 2025, we’ll be publishing newsletters on a quarterly basis to consolidate information while keeping everyone informed and engaged. Additionally, we’ll send out a hard copy newsletter every summer as a special way to share updates and stories. If you’re interested in receiving these hard copies, please fill out this Google form!
Building connections
Beyond fundraising and events, my favorite part of this role has been reconnecting with so many of you. Hearing your life updates and sharing news about the team brings back great memories. Whether you’re near or far, your involvement makes a difference, and I’m excited to strengthen these connections in 2025.
Thank you for your continued support and dedication. I’m proud of what this organization has accomplished so far, and I’m excited to see what 2025 holds. Here’s to another year of growth, collaboration, and success for Georgia Rowing.
Go Dawgs!
Will Hedgpeth

2024 Financial Recap
Below is a recap of this year’s finances, so you can all see where your donations are going.
As Will mentioned above, we were able to funnel a large donation for a new women’s 8 directly to the team as a 501c(3) organization. We were also able to send them additional funds gathered through recurring donations and other one-time donations.
